" Best Ones / Pi " PRESS UPDATE:

UK Press

In the lead-up to their ‘Foreigners’ LP seeing the light of day early next year, this London-based Slovakian trio have released an arrestingly fresh double A-side to see in the back end of summer.

The spiky intro of ‘Best Ones’ quickly gives way to Tomas Dask’s bluesy, attention-grabbing voice, with the song’s well-crafted melodies characterised by urgent pace and frenetic rhythms throughout.

While the main refrain of ‘We are the best ones!’ is sure to stick in the head after repeated listens, the single’s second track ‘Pi’ is an altogether more delicate affair, with The Bridgeheads going for a more measured, slow-burn approach to great effect.

A range of string textures and percussive beats punctuate another great vocal performance from Dask, while the guitar parts soon develop from the forlorn to the sublime with the confidence of a band on the up.

The debut single from the Slovakian 3-piece is a double A-side of two haunting yet contrary moments of rock beauty. Best Ones’ is heavy and penetrating with unpredictable riffs and a catchy chorus of high pitched vocals. Tomas’ almost-ethereal choruses sound remarkable next to the pounding drums and guitars.

Bridgeheads song was very good was best music video / song I have heard this year. I get some music which sound all the same and it was refreshing to listen to this track.

...these two songs from The Bridgeheads promise great things. Hailing from Slovakia, their reduced instrumentation (there’s no bass player and the guitarist plays without an A-string) could have led to a Spartan sound but instead they manage to weave together some dark sounds, particularly in ‘Pi’ courtesy of clever layered effects pedals.

strong track and video. I’ve added it to July’s Mixmash DVD compilation that gets sent to DVJs. I’ll also be adding it to next week’s indie/alt jukebox update.

... the voice of Tomas dAsK is very special, the set is rough and rich... lyrical and stripped. Really earnestly recommended.

The Bridgeheads have been chosen by a jury as the best emerging artist of July 2010... The Bridgeheads send a power-rock nervous, exciting, effective, while being quite minimalist. ... They just released an album for a free download on their site, with a small digital booklet, a note of the singer, and 11 tracks including the rhythmic and nervous Tinnitus that we really liked.

If music, lyrics, artwork and associated video are specially designed to complete each other, then one can confidently speak of a work of art. The Bridgeheads managed to achieve such a highlight with their debut album Foreigners - it is truly a work of art!

it’s an experience that needs to be… experienced.  ...they do not adhere to a single genre I know of. this album is a fresh breath of air for music as a whole. it’s one of a kind. it needs to be heard to stand any chance of being even remotely fathomed. you need to hear this.

Album 'Foreigners' is a collection of a perfect beauty... advocating a melancholy shot between the eyes, which few people would have expected.

The album 'Foreigners' already feels mature. The lyrics are succinct and it almost feels that it's impossible to write them so eloquently. Music of course well accompanies the lyrics. The strong melodies are not absent, the vocals, sometimes ravening, at other times shivery, or a gentle sound of guitars are at some parts overshadowed by a lightsome piano, with a combination of sometimes moderate, other while aggressive drums - this a present sound of this London band. I don't want to discuss each song separately, because everyone will make up their mind about them on their own. What strikes me is that even after several listens, none of the songs seems to me weaker than others. Each one has something original, if it doesn't drag you with its guitar riff, it's compensated with a piano or brilliant lyrics. It is a complex album... the album has a certain statement value what is exactly what majority lack these days. The album has no ambition to play on something, to compete with someone. It wants to be itself...
